chupahIn the digital age of Facebook, Twitter and 24/7 texting, it seems as though very few things are sacred anymore. People text in class and even while driving.

But one woman was caught texting in a really unusual place – her own wedding.

After making her way down the aisle with her father, the California bride paused, pulled a cell phone out of her dress and began to text under her veil. She used one hand to text.

“This is part of a wedding video I shot in August 2008 at the Mission Beach Women’s Club in San Diego, CA,” videographer James Costa wrote on his YouTube page. “It was otherwise perfectly normal except for this one funny clip of the bride TEXTING just after [walking] down the aisle!”

Costa couldn’t believe his eyes when he noticed the covert messaging.

“At one point, I noticed her doing it through my lens and I had to pull away form the camera to make certain I was seeing what I thought I was seeing,” Costa wrote.

The bride’s back was to her guests, but Costa caught the moment on camera.

“…her back was to everyone in attendance,” Costa wrote. “I was the only one to see her. Her dad glanced over at her and then saw me doing a double take and began to laugh out loud!”

The bride’s father appears visibly embarrassed in the video and at one point opens his mouth and begins to move his arm as though he’s going to say something to her, but he refrains, and let’s the bride do – or text – whatever she wants on her special day.

  1. This was obviously not a Yiddishe wedding. By Goyim a wedding is no big deal. It’s not a commitment of any sort, her Kesuba isn’t 200, and there’s a 60% chance that it’s going to end up in divorce. So it’s no big deal to text with those conditions!

  2. Let’s see, if we wanted to be dan lkaf zchus we could see that she only walked with her father, not mother; could be her mother was ill and couldn’t attend and she wanted to connect with her mother at that moment?

  3. 1. According to the pic, it IS IS IS a Yiddishe Chasunah

    2. Our weddings are more Kadosh V’tahor? Really? Then why is there incessant talking by UNZERE Chupas, as if everyone was waiting on line to fress pizza? One thing we can learn from “them” is to have a little bit of respect for yenem during the Chupa.

  4. Why is there a picture of the Kallah!!! We must be careful with Tznius this is why there is no power in the choshuva kehillois of Monsey and Waterbury!!! Chas vishalom someone should be nichshul…

  5. it was a goyishe wedding obviously but the lesson is still a good one how nothing is sacred anymore

it has nothing to do with texting but with the fact that people dont have respect anymore for anything

  6. She was updating her Facebook marital status! It has become very common nowadays by the goyim and it wont be long before Yidden will be doing the same.

  7. i doubt the picture is a picture of this actual event, but its a generic picture that matzav uses whenever it has an article about weddings

  8. During the summer,In Rabbi Landaus shule in Flatbush, the chazan read and replied to a text while the tzibbur replied to Modim. An irate person walked over, picked him up, moved him to the hall and sent someone up to finish the chazaras hashatz. It is infiltrating BIG TIME into places more spiritually intimate and holy than the story above.

  9. someone I know said that they hired a worker, and then a few months later, she quit the job by texting.
what do we get out of non verbal, inpersonal non-communication. We can use texting but with a sechel……not with abandon.
