rabbi-yonah-metzgerIsrael’s Ashkenazi chief rabbi is bringing home the bacon. Rav Yona Metzger’s office says it is primed to allow import of an organic goose grown in Spain that tastes like pork. Rav Metzger says three non-Jewish chefs confirm its swinish flavor.

Rav Metzger’s office says there is no Jewish injunction against eating goose, no matter what it tastes like, as long as it is slaughtered according to halacha.

“Kosher pork” would open new “flavors” to frum Jews.

Spokesman Avi Blumenthal said Rav Metzger is eager to begin the importing as soon as the geese reach slaughtering weight. He said the rav would see that it passes “all the rabbinical kosher authorities to make sure it gets to Israel.”

  1. THE JEWISH PEOPLE HAVE A LONG INVOLVEMENT BEING FIRST IN THE HISTORY BUT REMOVED FROM PUBLIC EYE. CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS WAS JEWISH/ITALIAN AND HAD JEWISH PEOPLE ON HIS SHIP WHEN DISCOVERED AMERICA. THE PILGRIMS THE MEN WORE HATS LIKE THE HASIDICS AND THE WOMEN WORE WHITE AND BLACK CLOTHES. CHRIST IN CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS.

  2. For what purpose? If it were in order to provide an alternative for those non-frum yidden who would otherwise eat treif, fine. But to say “Kosher pork would open new “flavors” to frum Jews.” ??? Is this what kashrus and b’chukosai teleichu, etc was meant to be??? To have every flavor available to goyim? I once heard HaRav Mattisyahu Salomon shlita say in the name of someone – don’t remember who – (this is according to the way I remember it being said- I may be misquoting somewhat): there are two ways a person “ignores” the mitzvah of im b’chukosai teleichu (or maybe he said kedoshim tehiyu)- one is to simply “erase it” from the Torah and ignore it. Another is to stamp a hashgocha symbol all over it (till you can’t see it anymore).

  3. its for those who need to have it all. i can see the next advertisement for kasher lepesach hotel. seder night delicacy goose pork

  4. If it was just say goose from Spain nobody would even notice it. Whar’s the point to say it tastes like pork? Just to make headlines …

  5. Do all those “shocked” at “how low we have gone” realize that the gemora says how everything non kosher has a kosher alternative. We should not have the mentality that we need to afflict ourselves, there is nothing wrong with enjoying something b’heter. What we should not be doing is pursuing more physical desires and pleasures, but if it is there and kosher- by all means enjoy!

I only opened this page because I knew I would see all of theses knee-jerk responses- and I felt the need to address it.

  6. Think it is a chilul Hashem for a yehudi to want to eat a certain food ‘because’ it tastes or might taste like a treife food. Just for that reason alone, one should not even consider tasting it. This is the Yiddishkeit that was once in a normal era, but today, everyhting is turned upside down. To hear or read that frume yidden would want to or love to eat a food because it is a mock treifus, is disgusting. In fact, a number of years ago, there was a restaurant that had opened in Manhattan, with a hechsher, that proudly advertised that they had a mock treife fish; cannot remember exactly which food it was supposed to represent. Thankfully, there were outcries against this and they stopped.

Those that eat that ‘davar acher’ in Israel are mostly non-Jewish Russians and Russian Jews who came within the last couple of decades and have no inkling about being a Jew. The thought is deeply disturbing.
Israel is losing its Jewish character by the day, r’l. Many people ate geese in Europe in the shtetl and nothing was wrong with it, but then, there was no scientific modifications done to the animal or vegetable kingdom. They were the same geese since time immemorial and, from what I heard, tasted more like duck (fatted chickens) as they are a larger bird. To advertise it as a taste of treifus has crossed the line!

  7. Is this what its about trying to have every imagineable enjoyment and there is? This is flat out embarrising. Are we lacking that much that we need to search for more and more? Bh our stores are loaded with kol tuv, does anyone looked deprived? Moreover, not everthing that is kosher is yosher!! Pork has always been the prime example of tarfus have we sunk that low that we feel the urge to kasher this as well? If you want to enjoy a new delacase I can understand that but it seems that is not the focus rather a desire to have everything that they have as well! A hechsher doesnt necessarily make it kosher!!

  8. well for all of you who dont know goose is very very popular in europe all of youre ancesstors at it and the goose liver everyone know is a speacialty i was born in hungary and we hardly ever ate beef meet maybee once a year this was in the 50 s and 60 s even today all the old timers miss the goose here in america it is very very expensive i was terriblt surprised when i came here over 50 years ago that the butchers dont sell it chicken and trukey is popular but not goose it is a lean meet and very very tasty so lts not knock those that like it please

  9. This is the opposite of “Medina al Pi Torah”. The goose is Kosher with a Treif flavor. Medina al Pi Torah is Treif with a Kosher flavor!!!

  10. to shocked ”5” rabbi mattisyahu shlit”a ment to say about a person EATING SOMETHIMG THAT ACCORDING TO THE PERSON WHO’s eating it it is kosher , the truth is that its not kosher .

  11. It sounds silly since the reason people eat pork to begin with is beacuse it is a cheaper form of meat that is readily available. Is this goose going too be cheaper to buy then say beef? Will it encourage people to start keeping kosher?? Will it be a good sub for bacon and eggs? It sounds like the frum community is done well without pork. They’re not missing anything. Will it be the same texture?? It could be to encourage people to stop importing pork or raising pigs in Israel. Guess we will see.
