yidel-perlsteinHistory was made on the third floor of the AMICO Senior Center Tuesday night, when Community Board 12 elected its first ever Chassidic Jewish chairperson.

Yidel Perlstein, a Borough Park resident and businessman, won by a margin of 28 to 14, with one abstention. He will take the reins from Alan Dubrow, who has chaired the board since 1990 and been a board member since 1978.

Dubrow said that while he’s had a good run as chair, he won’t miss the pressure of the job.

“I’m certainly not upset,” Dubrow told press after the meeting. “You’ve taken a load of my shoulders, Mr. Perlstein.”

Members of the Hasidic community are glad to see one of their own representing them.

“It’s definitely going to help in Borough Park-it’s mostly Chassidic people,” said Chaim Wercberger, a Borough Park businessman and friend of Perlstein. “It will be interesting.”

  1. Yudel is not the first Chasidishe chair of a community board. R. Jacob Goldstein of Crown Heights, another chosid of the Rebbe, has held that role for some time at Community Board 9 in Brooklyn.

Yudel has been very helpful to the Rebbe’s mivtza of Lag Baomer parade in Boro Park.

  2. #1:
It doesn’t say he’s the first Community Board chairman in general, just that he’s the first on CB #12.

    #3:
#1 wrote mivtza, not mitzvah. I don’t think it was a typo.

  3. #1 wrote MiVtza not Mitzvah.
The word Mivtza means campaign (the Lubavitcher Rebbe Ztz”l had a campaign to make Lag B’Omer parades). It would be wise of you to read the comment properly before you mock.

  4. Comments # 2 & 3 seem to be the same person as evidenced by his misuse of the word “facts” which should be followed by a fact not a question.

Something tells me that you know who comment #1 is talking about when he writes “the Rebbe”. True, there are many Rebbes but only one is referred to throughout the world simply as the “Rebbe”.

The Rebbe had many campaigns which were called in Hebrew “Mivtza” or “Mivtzoim” not Mitzvah.

    Fact – Siyug L’Chochma Shtikah.

  5. Yudel also has done great work for Yeshiva Gan Yisroel in Boro Park, for young Chasidim of the Rebbe.

    What a real Chosid!

    Go Yudel!
