shafran1Rabbi Avi Shafran, spokesman for Agudas Yisroel of America, recently released a statement regarding budget cuts at the organization.

It has been 12 years since Rabbi Shafan began writing a weekly syndicated column. It has been produced under the auspices of “Am Echad Resources” – a service of Am Echad, Agudas Yisroel’s project to provide the larger Jewish world with Torah-informed material and current events commentary.

However, “budget cuts and attendant decisions at Agudath Israel have limited the scope of my duties for the organization,” says Rabbi Shafran. “Although I remain Agudath Israel’s media and public liaison and spokesperson, among the things I will no longer be doing on behalf of the Agudah will be my weekly column.”

Rabbi Shafran says that he will continue to publish material in various venues that will reflect official Agudath Israel positions, and such writing will appear above his name and organizational title.

  1. It is time for the Agudah to consider some serious self-examination;its mission, its constituency,
    its leadership; and its message.
When I looked over the Convention Program this week, it struck me that it looked and sounded the same as it did twenty-five years ago; different names, slightly different topics, but the same format…….great homiletics to a limited number of rich people who belong to the “Agudah” club……..so of course there will be budget cuts.

  2. Rabbi Shafran’s brilliant weekly column will be sorely missed. I look forward to whatever Rabbi Shafran chooses to share in the future.

  3. Not good news. Rabbi Shafran has clarity of thought and written word and is capable of influencing thinking people to the values of Torah Judaism. Why is this being cut?
