The Federal Bureau of Prisons says disgraced financier Bernie Madoff has not been diagnosed with cancer and is not terminally ill, directly contradicting a published report. The New York Post had reported yesterday that Madoff, 71, who was sentenced to 150 years behind bars for running the biggest Ponzi in history, has been taking 20 pills a day and says he does not expect to live much longer.
A spokeswoman for the Bureau of Prisons, Traci Billingsley, released the following statement after receiving numerous queries:
“While the NY Post story is full of inaccuracies, and we can’t specifically address all of them, we can tell you that Bernie Madoff is not terminally ill, and has not been diagnosed with cancer.”
There has been ongoing speculation that Madoff had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer well before he took the fall for the entire scam.
