Buses Travel On Shabbos in Israel

1

Bechadrei Chareidim discovered that ever since summer daylight savings time ended two months ago, many towns began operating buses after the start and before the closing of Shabbos. This was in defiance of a written guarantee of Transportation Minister sent to MK Uri Maklev of UTJ that, “As is customary for many years, with the transfer to the winter time schedule, the ministry will oblige public transportation operators to correlate the timetables of the various line to run… in a way which ensures that lines restricted from operating on Shabbos finish their runs before Shabbos begins and start their runs after Shabbos ends.

Katz’s commitment was contravened in a number of towns including Yerushalayim, Ra’anana, Tzefas, Be’er Sheva, Netanya, Ashdod, Petach Tikvah and Carmiel.
