george-h-w-bushFormer President George H.W. Bush celebrated his 90th birthday today by jumping from a helicopter over Kennebunkport, Maine. Bush announced the jump on Twitter this morning, writing, “It’s a wonderful day in Maine-in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump.”

Bush celebrated his 75th, 80th, and 85th birthdays by skydiving. He promised to do so on his 90th five years ago. The planned jump was kept secret until this  morning so that Bush could opt out at the last minute. Read more at the Boston Globe.

  1. What an amazing realization! A “Gadol” of the world, a former President of the United States, and all he has to show for himself over the past twenty years are silly helicopter jumps every five years. Is this supposed to be an accomplishment? Something for mankind to applaud?

B’H we have our 90 year old Gedolim to look up to. Rav Shteinman and Rav Wosner at 100 bli ayin hara still learning and delivering shiurim and hadracha for Klal Yisroel! Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky running to four corners of the globe to be mechazek yidden and help mosdos and tzedaka..Rav Yitzchok Scheiner, Rav Aryeh Finkel,Rav Aharon Schechter…Ashreinu that we have elder statesmen we can really look up to!

  2. I am glad we live in a culture where no doctor tells you often or have you heard of that you should not jump out of an airplane to ‘parachute’, but many who do not like you might tell you never to smoke a cigar. I might be glad that Mr. Bush is happy, but I clearly think that a mind with honor wants honor from revolution of human taste and not human fear. Still, Mr. Bush, you are leaving a great legacy! Shalom.

  3. Good for him!
BTW the helicopter was 6,000 feet up when he jumped! That’s more than as mile! Foe a nonagenarin: psssss!

  4. toit meshige. A ehrliche yid celebrates his 90 th birthday with teshuva, learning introspection. A goy jumps from a helicopter

  5. What an accomplishment! I guess that’s what happens, when you do so bad as president, you must find other things to feel accomplished about.

  6. What’s wrong with him doing it? He enjoys doing it, good for him. Criticizing him, even if it was justified is not marbeh kvod shomayom when done in an open forum read by everyone.
Ps Rav Arye Finkel is maximum 82 not 90 as mistakenly reported.
