gaza-tunnelsIsraeli security forces last week discovered and neutralized an underground tunnel linking Gaza and Israel, likely intended to be used to instigate a terror attack or kidnapping attempt inside Israel, the IDF said this morning.

The tunnel, which an official said was particularly wide and about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) long, started in Abbasan al-Saghira, a farming village near Khan Yunis, in Gaza, and terminated inside Israel near Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha, in the western Negev.

The tunnel, which was discovered over a week ago, came out near a kindergarten on the kibbutz, among other exit points. It was filled with explosives, likely intended to be used for a terror attack, the military said.

On Tuesday, IDF Chief Benny Gantz warned that the next war could be sparked by a “tunnel packed with explosives that reaches a kindergarten.”

The IDF said it took several days to destroy the tunnel and cleared information for publication today.

“The tunnel was discovered in time, and disaster was averted,” Haim Yellin, head of the Eshkol Regional Council, told Ynet News today. Read more at Times of Israel.

  1. Sit down at the piece table! Make overatures to these piece loving people! All will be fine afterwards. The tunnel was likely to avoid traffic and the explosives were just there to keep them from getting into the hands of the bad among them. This eay they were being supervised. Live alongside this piece-loving peoples.

  2. A tunnel that starts in Gaza also ends in Gaza.I dont understand why the Arabs of Gaza shouldnt be buried in their own tunnel. Why wait for the next time?

  3. If they use radar equipment on small planes to find buried archaeological digs in Israel, then why can’t they use this equipment to find tunnels?
