Camels will be issued with licence plates in Iran in a bit to curb road traffic accidents, the Daily Mail reports. Nearly 100,000 of the animals have already got their personal registration numbers and 35,000 more are to be issued during the first phase of the scheme.
Officials have pointed to the number of camels on the roads of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, causing damages, accidents and losses to residents as the reason for the licence plate plan.
The authorities want to introduce the number plates so that owners can contacted if their camel is involved in an incident.
