ashton-carter1Defense Secretary Ashton Carter blamed the Islamic State’s recent victories in Ramadi on Iraqi forces on Sunday, criticizing the troops for showing “no will to fight” the militants.

“They were not outnumbered. In fact, they vastly outnumbered the opposing force and yet they failed to fight and withdrew from the site,” Carter said of Iraqi forces on CNN’s State of the Union.

The defense chief called American and allied airstrikes “effective” and defended Obama‘s opposition to sending ground troops to help Iraqis on the front lines.

Carter’s comments come after ISIS militants seized parts of Iraq’s western Anbar province, including the capital Ramadi, as well as parts of Syria. Read more at The Washington Post.
