Chacham Ovadia Yosef, head of Shas’ Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah, was taken today to Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital.
It is about three weeks after Chacham Ovadia slipped his house and he is suffering from severe pain.
On Shabbos, his pain intensified and he was unable to attend the tefillos in his shul adjacent to his home in Har Nof. His family wanted to take him to the hospital at that point, but he refused.
Chacham Ovadia did not deliver his regular weekly drashah on Motzoei Shabbos, which was delivered bys his son Rav Yitzchak Yosef, author of Yalkut Yosef.
Chacham Ovadia was then taken today to Hadassah Ein Kerem, where he underwent a series of tests to check for the source of his discomfort and pain and whether it is related to his fall afew weeks ago.
Following the tests, doctors decided to keep Chacham Ovadia in the hospital for several days, during which he will be observed and physicians will decide if he should undergo back surgery.
At 5:30, an atzeres tefillah will be held on Har Hazeisim as a zechus for Chacvham Oavdiah, led by Rav Reuven Elbaz, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ohr Hachaim.
Last week, in his Motzoei Shabbos drashah, Chacham Ovadia addressed his health situation and asked the public to daven for him: “I ask you all please to please daven for me that I be healthy. I am in great pain; every step that I take involves pain. Bless me that I be healthy to raise the Torah, to strengthen the Torah.”
Chacham Ovadia, one of the most brilliant Torah minds of our day, turned 92 on 11 Tishrei. He is a former Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel and currently serves as the spiritual leader of the Shas political party in the Knesset.
All are asked to daven for Rav Ovadiah ben Georgia.

why mention his age?
will it help him get better?
will he feel comfort now that the world knows his age?
so many other elder gedolim, such as rav elyashiv, rav lefkowitz, rav kopelman, rav scheinberg, rav chaim stein, the vizhnitzer rebbe, rav dov schwartzman, and so many more were niftar recently. who knows if it was because of ayin hara. mr. matzav,

It is not an evil to mention the age of a rabbonim. It is actually a blessing as we know exactly how endowed we really are as a people. They should continue to select ages for their stories and there is no evil by Hashem that comes to realization of Israel’s potential. Thanks.
