Chacham Ovadiah Yosef, leader of Shas’ Moetzet Chachmei HaTorah, in his weekly Motzoei Shabbos drasha, came out strongly against US demands that Israel halt so-called “settlement” activity. “What right do they have to tell us ‘here you can build, here you can’t build,'” Chacham Ovadia said during the drasha, excerpts of which were re-aired today on radio. “We are not their slaves,” he said.
It marked the latest swipe at President Barack Obama’s administration over its repeated demands that Israel stop all settlement activity in the West Bank and east Yerushalayim.
The demands have created tensions between the two close allies not seen in years.
Chacham Ovadiah spoke about what we can do to help bring Moshiach, saying that “Only limud haTorah will bring his arrival. Other things won’t help, not bagrut or safrut.”
