If the Israeli government goes ahead to enforce the drafting of yeshiva students, they will have no choice but to leave Eretz Yisroel, said Chacham Ovadiah Yosef, head of Shas’ Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah.
“There is a terrible gezeirah hanging over our heads,” he said. “Chas veshalom, we would have no choice but to leave Eretz Yisrael so that the yeshiva bochurim are not forced to [join the army].
“We are surrounded by enemies and haters, but for these evil ones who hate Torah, it doesn’t matter,” said Chacham Ovadiah. “All they are interested in is punishing us, the chareidi yeshiva students. This is a terrible gezeira and we are in great trouble.
“”The Torah is in danger. How will they be talmidei chachomim if they are drafted into the army? We will chas veshalom have to leave, to travel to outside Eretz Yisrael, in order to ensure that the yeshiva bochurim will be free to learn? We are in great trouble and is the time for each and every person to commit to vote for the parties that support the Torah,” he said.
