chacham-ovadiah-yosefChacham Ovadiah Yosef, who turned 93 exactly one week ago, has been hospitalized and is in need of rachamei Shomayim.

The great gaon and posek was hospitalized several times over the past month at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, and he returned there last night after feeling unwell over Shabbos. Chacham Ovadiah’s tefillos were held in his home, and at one point during Shabbos he needed oxygen. After consultations with his personal physician, Dr. Yochanan Shtassman, it was decided to have Chacham Ovadiah taken to the hospital.

While Chacham Ovadiah is in the ICU, his family has said that his condition, this time, unlike previous hospitalizations, is “serious and complicated.”

The hospitalization comes just two days after Rav Naim Ovadia, Chacham Ovadiah’s brother, passed away on the first day of Sukkos at the age of 92. The levaya was held on Motzoei Yom Tov of the first day of Sukkos. Sources indicate that Chacham Ovadiah’s physician instructed the family not to tell him of the petirah due to his weakened state.

All are asked to continue davening for Rav Ovadiah ben Georgia l’refuah shleimah.
