charles-finkelstein-esquireBrooklyn, NY – Charles Finkelstein, Esquire, is running for Civil Court Judge of Municipal Civil Court District 5 (Kings County). A graduate of Yeshiva Toras Emes, Yeshiva University and Pace University School of Law, Finkelstein has been practicing law for over two decades and is well-liked by colleagues and community members.

“I’ve known Charles Finkelstein for 25 years,” said Assemblyman Dov Hikind. “He’s an exceptional attorney as well as one of the most dedicated family men I know. As a former felony prosecutor, and as an attorney who has handled the widestvariety of civil cases, Charles Finkelstein has just the right temperament, demeanor and experience for the position of Civil Court Judge. He’s exactly the type of community member you want on the bench: experienced, fair and honest.”

Finkelstein has served as a Felony Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, an Assistant Special Narcotics Prosecutor in Manhattan, and an Administrative Law Judge forthe NYC Dept. of Finance. He has extensive experience in all courts-Family, Civil and Supreme. Despite these achievements, Finkelstein never stopped educating himself: He’s taken numerous post-law school legal education courses including Family Court Practice, Court of Appeals Review, Criminal Law Boot Camp, Jury Selections, Laws of Evidence Updates and Ethics. But ethics is something that seems to be part of Finkelstein’s DNA.

Colleagues know Finkelstein as not only a highly qualified candidate for judge, but also as an extremely generous man who has often represented and counseled Jewish children and teens at risk along with their parents in criminal and civil situations-and done so at his own expense. Although busy with his own practiceand family (six children, which include two sets of twins), Finkelstein is eager to help people and, among other things, has spent nearly a decade aiding an indigent family of nine and many others.

“I prefer not to talk about myself and especially not about any charitable work I’ve done because it might embarrass people,” says Finkelstein. “But you have to let people know who you are when you’re running for judge, so let me say this: I care about my community and I care about the law. That’s been a working combination for my entire adult life. And it really does matter who sits on the bench when you’re in a courtroom so I hope our community takes the 10 minutes to come out and vote on September 13th, right before Rosh Hashanah, and support my candidacy for Civil Court Judge.”

  2. Several years ago Mr. Finkelstein represented me in a Brooklyn court case. His legal knowledge, abilities and experience were impressive, to say the least. I am very happy to hear this news and sincerely hope that the people of Brooklyn (I’m from Queens so I can’t help him with my vote) choose this erliche mentsch to ascend to the bench.
