CHASDEI HASHEM – FOUND! Lakewood: Search Underway for Two Boys Who Didn’t Show Up to School

[Update below] Initial report, 12:28 p.m.: Two boys in Lakewood, NJ, approximately 7 and 8 years of age, didn’t show up at school this morning, prompting a search.

The first grader and second grader, residents of the Lakewood Commons development off of Vine Avenue, left their home as they do each day to take the bus to school. They reportedly did not go on the bus. They never showed up at their school, the Lakewood Cheder, located on Vassar Avenue in the Industrial Park, 2-and-a-half miles from their home.

One boy was wearing a pink shirt, the other a green one.

Local organizations, including Hatzolah and Chaveirim, have dispatched volunteers assist Lakewood Police in their search.

All are asked to daven for their safe return.

Update, 1:04 p.m.: Boruch Hashem, the boys have been found. They were in a forest near their home, where they were discovered by a police officer. Thank you to all the volunteers who participated in the search. May we only hear besuros tovos.

Putting safety aside for a moment, and even realizing that work schedules and family obligations do not always allow for escorting our children to and from their bus stops, let’s put everything into perspective and in its proper level of priority. CHaZa”L teach us that women receive reward for limud ha’Torah by sending their husbands and children off to learn and awaiting their arrival from their holiest of holiest of tasks. Too often I have seen this responsibility, this privilege, this obligation, this priceless opportunity relegated to older siblings, to the neighbors, or worse to the non-Jewish help.
