Yerushalayim Deputy Mayor Ofer Berkowitz told The Marker that although the Shabbos status quo is generally preserved in Yerushalayim, entertainment venues, which the status quo allows to open on Shabbos, have proliferated hugely in the recent past.

“Check how the number of places and compounds open on Shabbos grew in the past few years,” he said. “There are ten new compounds that did not exist: the Alma Cafe in Independence Park, Yes Planet, the Station Complex that operates partially on Shabbos, the Betzalel Cafe, Gaza Street, and the places under the Yerushalayim Theater.”
