Chillul: Yerushalayim’s First Station Entertainment Complex Remains Open On Shabbos

Despite a stormy municipal session that resulted in a 15-10 vote to overturn an earlier decision allowing Yerushalayim’s First Station entertainment complex to operate on Shabbos, Israel’s District Planning and Building Committee decided that the situation will remain unchanged.

“The status quo in the city is that there are restaurants and entertainment centers open on Shabbat, and no commerce in the Jewish parts of the city,” Yerushalayim Mayor Nir Barkat told Times of Israel. “This is exactly what is happening at the First Station, and these are the rules in Yerushalayim and always have been.”

The vote was only a recommendation, he said.
