rav-shternbuch-rav-weissWhile police mobilize and put together an operational plan for securing the toeivah parade in Yerushalayim slated to take place this Thursday, gedolei rabbonim in Yerushalayim have expressed differing views in responding to the violation of kedushah in the Holy City.

The question at hand is whether there should be a public demonstration against the Yerushalayim parade, like in years past.

Ads were hung last night in the streets of Yerushalayim calling on Yidden to participate in the demonstrations against the parade.

protest-pride-paradeThis reflects the view of Maran Rav Moshe Shternbuch, the Rosh Av Bais Din of the Eidah Hachareidis, who has in the past made his opinion known that chareidi Yidden are obligated to protest such acts of abomination. The posters are signed by Rav Shternbuch and the protest will take place this Thursday, at 5:30 p.m., in Kikar Shabbos.

Within the Eidah Hachareidis, though, there are chilukei dei’os, as the Gaon Av Bais Din, Rav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss, is reported to have said that, in his opinion, it would be better not to protest the parade, not to talk about it, and to give the regrettable event the least exposure possible.

In the meantime, Yerushalayim District Police Chief Aharon Franco has formed a deployment plan to protect the pride parade marchers.

  1. Where are you Rabbi Yehuda Levin when we need you?
By the way, abbi Shtenbuch is the Rosh Beis Din not Rosh Av Beis Din. I’m not sure what you think you are saying when you call him the Rosh AV Beis Din ?
Anyway, the dilema is genuine. Does we or Dosen’t we protest.

  2. #1 the parade glorifies a lifestyle that the torah calls a toeivah. no matter how you feel that is immoral, this is the opinions of all orthodox jews. any person who claims that he is orthodox but that the toeiva lifestyle is not a toeiva is denying one of the parts of the torah and is a koifer.

  3. Maybe if there was a possibility of such a demonstration being done respectfully in a way that would be Kiddush Hashem and not the opposite ch”v, there would be no machloykess.

  4. Toeivah means Abomination. It is referring to the practice of which is a Toeivah, against the law of G-d. The parade is a brazen expression of support for this Toeivah, in Jerusalem, the holy city, which is like G-d’s “front lawn.” This parade is the equivalent of “smacking G-d in the face.”

  5. Rav Weiss is “reported” to have said: Well, did he say it or not? Did you (Matzav) check your facts or not? Don’t stir up trouble when there isn’t. Rav Shternbuch Shlita is concerned for Kvod Shomayim only – not political fall out!!! It’s about time you people get on Hakadosh Baruch Hu’s team!

  6. The root cause of the problem is the failure of the Frum community to become actively engaged in Israeli society. In so, doing they could have had an enormous influence on such important issues as Education, Economics, healthcare, defense and foreign policy. Instead they’ve refused to infuse Israeli society with holiness resulting in Religious people standing on the side lines of this awful parade

  7. Why won’t you print my statement. I have said nothing that insults anyone. I am merely telling you how the rest of the world percieves
these demonstrations. It will provide a forum of education and discussion.
