Visit your parents. That’s an order.
So says China, whose national legislature on Friday amended its law on the elderly to require that adult children visit their aged parents “often” – or risk being sued by them. The amendment does not specify how frequently such visits should occur.
State media say the new clause will allow elderly parents who feel neglected by their children to take them to court. The move comes as reports abound of elderly parents being abandoned or ignored by their children.

Same China that disallows more than one birth per family
You don’t like it? Remember that China has nothing like our Social Security. Seniors are dependent on their children. In traditional China this was accepted and not so difficult. Now, children must move a thousand miles away to get jobs in the coastal cities, and the one-child policy means that there may be only one child to support the parents.
We have Social Security now, and it’s hard to imagine how terrible was the threat of poverty to old people in this country up until aruond seventy years ago. I remember in my childhood hearing old people talk about the fear of dying poverty-stricken. Look for China to be following our lead on this soon.
This law would be useful in the USA also.
