chofetz-chaimGrodno – Voronovo District intends to create a Jewish Chofetz Chaim cultural-historical center, reporters learned during a meeting between senior officials of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee and Israel’s Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Belarus Yosef Shagal.

The idea to create the center in the village of Radun in Voronovo District appeared in 2010, after a meeting of the regional authorities with the Israeli company Moreshet Chofetz Chaim.

Following the talks in June this year, a protocol of intent was signed. It provides for a step-by-step timetable for the investment project. At this point Israel’s interests are represented by the consulting company Arzinger & Partners. The Israeli side will have a legal entity registered on the territory of Voronovo District and will prepare an investment agreement.

Grodno Oblast Executive Committee is interested in the project and is ready to allocate a land plot adjacent to the cemetery where Chofetz Chaim was buried, and will provide all-round assistance to the investor. The village of Radin may become a popular destination of nostalgic tourism.

The village of Radin is called the Jewish “Mecca” in Belarus because it is home to the yeshiva of Chofetz Chaim, the Torah leader of Poland and Russia in the late 19th – early 20th centuries. The house where the gadol hador lived has not survived. It was dismantled and taken to the United States. However, the shul where the rabbon shel kol bnei hagolah spent most of his life was converted into a community center. Under the investment project the shul will be restored.

  1. may there come to be another chofetz chaim living there with another way for us to achieve lon life FOR TODAYS GENERATION even with all the instant-gradification & technology

  2. Wake up yiden. Ever see a Jewish Cultural Center in Poland? It’s about as Jewish as eating rye bread – yaeh a bit more – they usually stick in an old sefer ‘yoitzeh tsoozien’.

  3. This is a ridicules waste of time. This project is a disgrace to the Kadosh Vitahor that spent his time deep in Torah Uteffila over there.

  4. y do u write the house of the chofetz chaim “didnt survive” as if to say it died?? while you yourselfs wrote that it was taken to the united states! meaning it actuly got a new lease of life!!!??
