christieNew Jersey Gov. Chris Christie struck back at former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, dismissing Giuliani’s comments that Christie should have been in-state during the recent snowstorm as merely chatter from “the peanut gallery.”

“I understand this perception thing. I get it, and I’ve listened to everybody,” Christie, one of of the northeast politicians dinged by last month’s snowstorm, said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“I like Rudy a lot too, but it’s easy to sit in the peanut gallery and shoot away,” he said.

Christie caught flak during the storm because both he and his lieutenant governor were out of state. The governor was in Disney World, and Giuliani said on “Morning Joe” last week that Christie “should have come back. … You’ve got to be there if you are a governor, a mayor, or even a president, if it’s important enough.”

Giuliani campaigned for Christie in 2009.

On Wednesday, Christie said Giuliani is “wrong on this one.” In the days since the snowstorm, Christie has defended his choice to stay in Disney World, saying his first responsibility was to his family, and that he’d taken all appropriate steps to manage the weather emergency from the road.

“I guess when you’re retired and out of politics, it’s easy to come on these shows and shoot away,” he said.

  1. Guilliani is %100 right! A leader must be there for the people in their moment of hardship! Christie is just a fat lazy loud mouth, loser!

  2. Governor Christie had every right to be away with his family and leave the ship to the dedicated and able staff that he’s hired to run the state day-to-day. And they did the job quite well. In contrast, where NY city was lacking in services, it was not Governor Paterson who was responsible for the debacle in the city. Each locale has its own leadership and local government to whom the citizens pay taxes. Even Mayor Bloomberg , who has taken lots of flack for “NOT HAVING DONE THE JOB” didn’t really have to be at home, in the city, provided that the city was in good hands. I guess once it became clear that the job being accomplished, then he should have returned home because ultimately it was his job. To say that Christie belonged at home is to say that there were no under links and no local governments who were responsible! In New Jersey THE JOB WAS GETTING DONE!

BUT GOVERNOR CHRISTIE, for crying out loud, WHY ANSWER YOUR CRITICS!??? IGNORE THEM!
