Christie Says He’ll Be ‘Much More Ready’ For White House Run In 2016

chris-christie1New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told Oprah Winfrey in an interview that a lot depends on whether he’ll run for president in 2016, but one thing’s for sure: “In terms of me, I’ll be much more ready four years from now,” he said.

Christie, who called politics a “contact sport,” said there’s no doubt he’s attracted to holding positions of power, but has so far foregone the ultimate test for a simple reason.

“There’s nothing more unattractive than getting there and feeling like you’re not ready,” he said, adding that he’s never felt over his head as governor.

Winfrey, who endorsed President Obama in 2008, asked Christie about the odds the Democrat will win another four years. “He is as good a politician as I’ve ever seen,” he said. “I think where the shortcoming has been is in governing.”

Christie remains, for many Republican elites, the one that got away (or one of the ones) in 2012, after being courted for months by donors and party bigwigs. He said he wasn’t running because he didn’t feel ready, and because he’d promised his state he would serve out his term.

He endorsed Romney in October 2011, and was one of his earliest big-name backers, and has campaigned in earnest for him. Still, for him to run in 2016 would mean Romney would have to lose this time around.

  1. A few more burgers go a long way! Either or, I would hope that the GOP was more prepared intellectually and honestly to be a force in the future.
