chris-christieMost New Jersey residents will be happy to learn that Gov. Chris Christie has vetoed legislation requiring sprinkler systems in all new home construction.

Christie announced the decision today, explaining that requiring sprinklers would increase the cost of new homes by thousands of dollars.

And he’s right about that.

The bill had passed both houses of the NJ Legislature in March and was awaiting a decision by Christie, who did the right thing by opposing it, though he is calling on Trenton to examine whether sprinklers would be appropriate in townhouses, where, he said, the cost may be lower.
