Demonstrations are expected today after a grand jury voted not to indict a white police officer in Cleveland for fatally shooting Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old black boy who was carrying what turned out to be a pellet gun.
Lawyers for Tamir’s family have called for a special prosecutor in the case and have asked the Justice Department to investigate.
The decision caps more than a year of investigations into the shooting, which added to national outrage over white officers killing African-Americans.
