Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump’s response to her criticism of his past comments about the housing crisis an attempt to “double down” on the remarks.

Clinton and her allies launched a new, coordinated attack against Trump on Tuesday focused on his comments suggesting that he sought to profit from the housing crash. Trump quickly responded to Clinton saying that his words reflected “the kind of thinking our country needs, understanding how to get a good result out of a very bad and sad situation.”

Eager to not let the statement stand unchallenged, Clinton fired back on Tuesday night.

“Why on earth would we elect somebody as president who actually rooted for the collapse of the mortgage market?” Clinton said at a rally at the University of California at Riverside. “Donald Trump thought he could make money off of people’s misery.”

The Riverside rally began and ended with Trump as Clinton urged Californians to make a choice in the Democratic primary with Trump in mind.

“This primary needs to send a real signal that Donald Trump will hear no matter where he is that California wants a positive future,” Clinton said. “It may have started out as entertainment but now it’s really, really concerning.”

Despite being locked in a Democratic primary with Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Clinton hardly mentioned him. Instead, she focused on Trump and her campaign’s new strategy of not allowing his comments– past or present — to stand uncontested.

Meanwhile, Trump has not eased up on his personal attacks against Clinton for the scandals of her husband’s administration, a strategy that Clinton seemed to acknowledge.

“We’re going to take on Donald Trump on the issues,” Clinton said. “He can go ahead and engage on insulting and scapegoat and demeaning and bullying people.”

“But I think the American voter is a lot smarter than to fall for that,” Clinton added.

  1. Yeah! How dare Trump profit from the housing crisis, the very housing crisis that Clintons and the rest of Democrats so painstakingly planned and orchestrated. Only Hillary should be allowed to profit from the misery she causes.

  2. I think the American people are also smart enough to know NOT to vote for hillary. She will be a disaster if she gets anywhere near the white house as has been the case for the last 8 years

  3. Every short-seller is trying to profit from people’s misery. Every politician tries to get elected by utilizing voters’ unhappiness and misery.
Hillary Clinton is deliberately conflating causing misery and profiting from said misery. Per her logic, if a vandal smashes someone’s windshield, the glass shop is now bad because it’s profiting from the vehicle owner’s misery.
