Clinton Says She Wasn’t Expecting Trump’s ‘Avalanche Of Falsehoods’

An upbeat Hillary Clinton said that she was “surprised by the absolute avalanche of falsehoods” coming from Donald Trump during their second debate Sunday but otherwise “pretty much saw what I expected to see.”

The Democratic presidential nominee spoke briefly to reporters traveling on her plane as it prepared to depart late Sunday en route to Westchester County, New York. She appeared relaxed as she made her way to the back of the plane – where the press sits – as it started to taxi.

“The most important thing is we need to take off so we can actually have some drinks served,” Clinton said. “My entire team is waiting for this airplane to take off.”

“Nothing surprises me about him,” Clinton said when was asked about her Republican opponent’s debate performance. But she added: “I was surprised by the absolute avalanche of falsehoods.”

Clinton cited a fact-checker service that she said had rated 70 percent of Trump’s previous claims as false.

“I think he exceeded that percentage” she said of Sunday night’s performance.

Clinton was asked if she could sense Trump standing close behind as she answered some of the questions during a town-hall format, where both could roam the stage.

“Yes, I could,” she said. “It was a very small space, and I tried to give him space.”

Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, was also on the flight – the first time he’s traveled on her campaign plane – but he did not speak to the press.

Later in the flight, Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, shared his thoughts with the traveling press, knocking Trump for the “stunt” of holding a news conference before the debate.

“The stunt didn’t work and, frankly, the debate didn’t work for Trump because this race fundamentally hasn’t changed,” Mook said.

Mook also accused Trump of not having command of his facts and said he came across like “a dictator of a Banana Republic” when he said Clinton would be in jail if he were president.
