CNN President Jeff Zucker declared his network would “not going to be shamed” into covering Benghazi and other stories without “real news value” at an awards dinner Monday.
Capital New York reports that Zucker explained CNN’s post-plane plans during an interview at the Deadline Club’s annual dinner on Monday night.
“I don’t think there’s any question about our commitment to breaking news, as evidenced by all the questions about the plane,” Zucker told The New York Times’ Bill Carter
“So we’re still there whenever that happens,” he continued, “but we’re going to supplement that with some different kind of storytelling.”
What kind of stories? “Climate change is one of those stories that deserves more attention, that we all talk about,” he explained – though he lamented the fact that “when we do do those stories, there does tend to be a tremendous amount of lack of interest on the audience’s part.”
But there are some stories Zucker is loathe to touch, like the House select committee on Benghazi scandal.
“We’re not going to be shamed into it by others who have political beliefs that want to try to have temper tantrums to shame other news organizations into covering something,” he explained, taking a not-so-subtle shot at the Republican Party. “If it’s of real news value, we’ll cover it.”
For all his talk of “real news,” Zucker felt compelled to explain why his network obsessively covered the missing airliner for two months despite possessing almost no new information.

It is about time the mainstream media stopped allowing itself to be drawn into non-stories.
Of course.
Dubious climate change – despite the fact that, by his own admission, the readers aren’t interested – is “real news.” Chris Christie and the bridge equals “real news.”
But four dead Americans, a major cover-up and deliberate lies straight from the White House? Nothing to see here, folks.
This guy is so transparent it’s laughable. Stories that elicit a “tremendous amount of lack of interest” on the part of the audience but serve Obama’s agenda are “real news.” Anything that might damage Obama’s agenda – no matter how much of interest it is to the American people – well, they won’t be “shamed” into covering it.
Good to really see that no one really thinks that the FOX conspiracy is self directing. You might even consider doing a story on why the conspiracy is being discussed. That might be interesting and informative.
The reason that Fox wants to discuss Benghazi is because big star Hillary is bigger than their own soup kitchen of hate.
Benghazi is the right egg for the wrong soup and the real problem is not that the Fox malevolents are thinking that they can hang the democrats over the very unfortunate accident that had 4 murders, but rather that the wicked are still trying to unseat the very people who have been carrying them for years.
Disappointing.

It’s a shame that someone so educated as commenter #1, Charlie Hall refuses to accept that the people he supports politically are corrupt. My guess is that he and others like him understand fully what is going on, but the ends justify the means, no matter how ugly the means may be. As it regards Benghazi, Charlie and his ilk would say “what difference does it make”?!
This guy doesn’t realize how hard he’s trying to cover up the real story – his excuses are typical of a left wing commie focusing on non issues hoping the public will forget about real issues.
