The folks at CNN received waves of criticism on Monday night after running a chyron that simply read, “If Jews Are People,” The Independent reports. On The Lead with Jake Tapper anchor Jim Sciutto interviewed leaders of the alt-right movement—aka racist, white nationalists—and President-elect Donald Trump’s support from the group. The guests were asked if Trump should formally condemn their support.

At one point in the interview, Sciutto read a quote from alt-right leader Richard Spencer that questioned the humanity of Jews, “One wonders if these people are people at all, or instead soulless golem.” And for some reason, a producer thought it would be a good idea to run the lower third, “Alt-right leader questions if Jews are people.”

Backlash over the graphic was swift and widespread, with many people noting that just because a guest voices a disgusting, hate-filled opinion, doesn’t mean you should ever run it as the chyron.

Below is a statement from Assemblyman Hikind on the controversial ‘Are Jews People’ caption.

“The ‘are Jews people’ caption that CNN left on-screen for roughly 2 minutes during a Monday broadcast is outrageous, irresponsible and uncalled for,” Assemblyman Hikind said. “There has been a nonstop attempt by the mass media to push its liberal progressive agenda while doing all it can to undermine President-elect Donald Trump, and it needs to stop now. Trump was elected by the American people, who spoke loud and clear on Election Day. I truly wish the media was just as dedicated to exposing malicious anti-Semitic rhetoric on the left. It’s time for fair and balanced reporting.”

  1. Racism & Hate crimes only apply to Republicans.
The Democrat controlled media is incapable of committing such heinous acts. If it seems like a Democrat is saying racist things, it is obviously a Republican provocateur that has set them up.
