Drinking as much as two and a half gallons of Coca-Cola a day caused a 30-year-old New Zealand mother of eight myriad health problems, including rotten teeth, withdrawal symptoms, and fatal cardiac arrest three years ago linked to excessive consumption of the sugary soda.

The soft-drink company insists her death can’t be definitively linked to guzzling the fizzy beverage, but a coroner’s report released today says just that, and asked that the company add clearer health warning labels on its packaging. Read more at the BBC.

  1. am I reading this correctly?!?!?!?

someone is stupid enough to drink 2 AND A HALF GALLONS of Coke A DAY, gets sick and dies, and now it’s Coca Cola’s fault ’cause they didn’t have a clear enough warning on the bottle?!?!?!?

  2. Another lawyer trying to make a buck. I guess all juices should have warnings as well that if you drink 50 gallons a day, you might die !!! Next time you see a lawyer, thank him for the high price of health care, doing business, car insurance etc…..

  3. This is an old story. After her death Coca-Cola corporation bought space in newspapers in oceania and asia and ran an ad, which expressed condolences to the family and said that anything in excess can be fatal, including water, and recommended customers to enjoy soft drinks in moderation.
I don’t consider Coke to be healthy, but it is hard to disagree with the company statement.

  4. I doubt it was the sugar. Coke contains a really significant amount of caffeine, so it might have been caffeine poisoning. Think of drinking two gallons of coffee a day.

  5. 2.5 gallons of anything would kill someone soon they will say orange juice is fatal when some idiot drinks that much of it and dies…she was obviously suffering sum health issues normal pppl dont drink 2.5 gallons a day

  6. Nine liters of water may be a fatal dose in some circumstances, but it is not inconceivable that a large person would need that to get through a day of strenuous work.
