col-richard-kempCol. (res.) Richard Kemp, the former British commander in Afghanistan, told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that, amazingly, the ratio of civilian to military casualties in the Gaza war was only one-fourth of the average in warfare around the world.

Kemp said there was approximately one civilian casualty for ever terrorist killed by the IDF, whereas the average in the world is four civilians for every combatant. “No army in the world acts with as much discretion and great care as the IDF in order to minimize damage. The U.S. and the UK are careful, but not as much as Israel.”

“During the whole operation Israel was very careful under all the limitations of international law. Even if there were exceptions…there was no intention to hurt civilians.”

  1. Like Hamas in Gaza, the Taliban in southern Afghanistan are masters at shielding themselves behind the civilian population and then melting in among them for protection. Women and children are trained and equipped to fight, collect intelligence, and ferry arms and ammunition between battles. Female suicide bombers are increasingly common. The use of women to shield gunmen as they engage NATO forces is now so normal it is deemed barely worthy of comment. Schools and houses are routinely booby-trapped. Snipers shelter in houses deliberately filled with women and children.[109][110]
