william-brattonYesterday, Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) sent the follow letter to NYPD Commissioner Bratton and Kings County DA Thompson regarding the death of Menachem Stark:

William Bratton

Commissioner

New York City Police Department

One Police Plaza, Madison Street

New York, NY 10038

Kenneth P. Thompson

Kings County District Attorney

350 Jay Street

Brooklyn, New York, NY 11201

Commissioner Bratton and District Attorney Thompson:

I am writing with urgency to request that your offices conduct a prompt investigation and prosecution of those found responsible for the death of Menachem Stark. Given the circumstances surrounding Mr. Stark’s passing, I ask that you give this case top priority and assign the necessary resources to deliver justice both promptly and fairly.

All New Yorkers have a right to feel safe whether they are in their homes or place of work. However, the brutal nature of this crime undermines our community’s safety, especially for those living in Williamsburg. As a result, it is incumbent for local law enforcement to restore a sense of security to these neighborhoods.

It is with this in mind that I urge both the NYPD and the Brooklyn DA to conduct a thorough and expedient investigation and prosecution. Bringing swift justice will send a message that heinous crimes such as this will not be tolerated and assure the public that the perpetrators of such a vicious act are off of the streets. Thank you for your attention to this matter and your work to solve this abhorrent crime.

Sincerely,

Nydia M. Velázquez

Member of Congress

  1. This is showboating. The NYPD takes all homicides very seriously. It recently solved the murder of a four-year-old child that took place in 1991.

  2. What makes people think that the NYPD isn’t investigating this murder with due diligence? It’s high profile, and they know they’ll be slammed if they don’t find the murderers. But this isn’t TV – murder investigations take time. If you have any possible information at all, contact the police immediately. Otherwise, get out of the way and let them do their jobs.
