New York City Councilman Chaim Deutsch announced the first ever “Southern Brooklyn Beach Day,” with separate dates for men and women by the sandy spot behind Kingsborough Community College, the NY Daily News. “A lot of people are disenfranchised for religious reasons,” the Democrat said. “They don’t use the beach because they don’t go mixed swimming. This is to give those people an opportunity for a day out at the beach.”
Deutsch plans to pay to rent the space by the community college, he said. The permit fee, which has not been determined, will be paid for by private donations. Men and boys can go from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on June 29. Women and girls can go for the same time period on July 27.

“What chutzpah, People don’t have the right to impose gender discrimination on a city beach simply because it’s mandated by their religion.”
“It is one thing for the city to provide reasonable accommodation for religious practice and quite another to limit the public access of everybody else.”
Thank you Chaim. I plan to be there with my boys.
Will there be a licensed lifeguard?

of cousre…back to the NYTimes (also mes).. few years ago when muslims asked and got separate swimming hours in a certain puclic pool the reshoim +NYT praised the ‘cultural diversity…
but after that when the shomrei torah ehrliceh yiddenes also got separate swim hrs
the NYTi mes was frothing at thier ‘mouths’ discrimination, racism!!!…a yid a meshumed is worse that a goy jew hater
hey donna lieberman genius!”Deutch plans to RENT THE SPACE”!!!!!!!
I wonder of Ms. Lieberman would decry chutzpah if a Muslim would rent the space to practice anti-western protests. And more importantly, please explain how this is gender discrimination? I think the word would be segregation, if anything. There is nothing discriminatory about separating apples and oranges in the supermarket bins. Perhaps we should also have one shopping cart as well? Hey, why should your groceries be separate from mine??? its grocery discrimination!
Donna Lieberman, (quoted above from NYP article, obviously has reading comprehension problems….
discrimination?who is discriminating against who? the women of these dont want to swim with men and the men of these group dont want to swim wih the women
