snow11The Tri-State area is dealing with another winter storm that is dumping several inches of snow and sleet over the course of this weekend.

A winter weather advisory is in effect through 6 a.m. Sunday for parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The snow and ice storm is expected to slow weekend travel by air, rail and highway and has utilities and airports on alert.

By 5 p.m. today, accumulation in parts of Connecticut had reached 2.5 inches. Two inches had fallen in northern New Jersey and parts of Rockland County . In the city there were accumulations of up to 2 inches throughout the five boroughs. Long Island had only received about an inch of snow across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The highest total as of early evening was in Armonk, Westchester County where over 3 inches had fallen.

Road crews did not waste any time getting ready for the snowfall. Many state and local agencies prepared for days ahead of the storm’s arrival.

New Yorkers are encouraged to sign up for the Notify NYC system, which sends information through phone calls, text messages and email alerts.
