Justice Antonin Scalia’s death today have Republican presidential hopefuls Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio stating that the next president should appoint Scalia’s successor. It not be Obama making the appointment, they averred.

“The next president must nominate a justice who will continue Justice Scalia’s unwavering belief in the founding principles that we hold dear,” Rubio said in a statement.

Crus concurred.

“Justice Scalia was an American hero. We owe it to him, & the Nation, for the Senate to ensure that the next President names his replacement,” Cruz wrote on Twitter.

  1. Dream on, boys. This is President Obama’s dream scenario; replacing the Supreme Court’s most conservative, cerebral and influential judge with an uber-liberal judge of his choice. This is his golden opportunity to flip a slightly conservative court into an extremely liberal activist one, possibly permanently.
