The Cuban government said Wednesday it wants Guantanamo Bay back from the United States. The U.S. has leased the area from Cuba since 1903 for its naval base and the communist regime has demanded the territory back since the 1959 revolution.
The demand came as the U.S. and Cuba announced the mutual opening of embassies in each other’s capitols.
Cuba also demanded the U.S. end “subversive” radio and TV broadcasts as part of the normalizing of relations that was first announced this spring. Read more.
