house-raffleIt’s a story you first read about here on Matzav.com. Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice is alerting ticket holders for a Massapequa house raffle that never occurred that her office has opened an investigation into the matter.

Rice said the $1 million home located at 17 Lincoln Place was the center of media attention last summer when the home’s owner claimed that he would be raffling the house off because he could no longer make payments. Approximately 16,000 interested buyers purchased $50 raffle tickets for the home. Rice says it adds up to $800,000 that has not been returned.

The raffle, which was scheduled to take place on Dec. 19, 2009 and rescheduled several times, never took place and homeowners have been unable to get their money back.

“Whether a crime has been committed is still under investigation, but we need as much information as possible before we can make that determination,” Rice said. “If you purchased a ticket for this raffle, your information could prove invaluable.”
