Authorities have spotted escaped murderer David Sweat and have him surrounded inside a perimeter of approximately 2.8 miles, according to reports.
A 911 call to police on Friday afternoon reported Sweat and fellow escapee Richard Matt attempted to carjack a camper vehicle south of Malone, New York — in the rough vicinity where authorities had been searching for the men. Matt was killed by a Border Patrol agent while Sweat escaped.
Sweat is reported to be cornered by heavily armed law enforcement officers just hours after a shootout left fellow fugitive Richard Matt dead about 20 miles from the Canadian border.
There were unconfirmed reports of multiple gunshots as the net closed in on the second fugitive.
The Daily Mail reported Sweat was involved in a shoot-out with police.
Sweat initially ran off after Matt was shot dead. Officers told the New York Times they “heard him running” from the scene, and fired another round of bullets but they missed.
