NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio called the New York Post ridiculous Monday for an article in which the newspaper reported that police officers think the training in wake of the Eric Garner case is unrealistic and silly.
“The New York Post, and interestingly all of the sources were unnamed, which the New York Post seems to prefer. So, I don’t think I’m being presented with anything in those reports but some disgruntled individuals,” the mayor said.
The Post reported that a high-ranking source claimed the “new regimen has been a bitter failure.”
“The Post persists in taking some unnamed individuals and trying to cast dispersions on a program created, again, by the greatest police leader in the country,” the mayor said, “It’s ridiculous.”
The mayor said there needs to be a better and different relationship between police and the minority community.
The mayor said he believes the vast majority of cops value the re-training and that Police Commissioner Bill Bratton believes it is crucial to fighting crime in the city.
