New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says he’ll sign a bill that imposes a 5-cent fee for single-use plastic bags, the AP reports.

The City Council approved the measure Thursday.  The law will cover plastic and paper bags given out by grocery stores, drugstores and other retailers. Stores, not the city, will get to keep the fees they collect.
