Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to tax wealthy New Yorkers to pay for everything from emergency rail repairs to low-cost bus and train rides for the poor.

De Blasio on Sunday unveiled an election-year pitch to raise $800 million a year for mass transit by soaking the rich with a nearly 14 percent tax increase on high-income Big Apple residents.

The proposed city income tax hike would raise the rate for individuals making more than $500,000 and married couples earning over $1 million from 3.876 percent to 4.41 percent. Read more at NY POST.

  1. I suppose all those askanim that came out to support him, don’t mind as they can afford it and don’t even know where the subway is.

    • No goods are transported using the NYC subway and buses.
The rich do benefit from the transit system as most likely it is their workers who ride it. However, giving discounts to low-incomes earners could possibly be just saving the wealthy from paying their workers more to cover the cost of transportation.

  2. This is the first thing that I actually agree with the Mayor. It’s a great idea. Most of the extremely rich, are big liberals and DeBlasio supporters, so this will serve them right. This doesn’t affect me, the little guy.

  3. The majority of the rich NewYorkers are a bunch of liberals who preach big government and high taxes. Let these limousine liberals enjoy the fruits of their labor.

  4. Taxing the rich doesn’t work. Enough “rich” will leave the city and it will be a net loss to NYC like what happened in other states that do this – CT, NJ.

    • Bubbeh maasos. Very very few rich left wing liberals will move out of here. They love it here. Here is where you have legal toaiva marriages and transgender bathrooms. How could they ever move? Bl$$mberg/Kushner types aren’t going anywhere.

    • Name once when the whine ” the rich will flee”because of taxes ..that it actually happened.
They have so many pluses because of location, etc.

      Have them contribute more

  5. Mike Bloomberg rode the subway. Deblasio has a nefarious disdain for succesful people, and wants to punish them for “riding first class”. Except he only used the trqin once, and after NYPD cleared the station of homeless. snob.
