For days, representatives of Degel Hatorah in Yerushalayim have been saying that the party supports the candidacy of Moshe Leon for mayor of Yerushalayim, but without official support being published from the party.
That changed this morning, when the front page of Degel Hatorah – Yated Ne’eman published an official report in which the party decided to support Moshe Leon as mayor of Yerushalayim.
“With the blessing of the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Maran Harav HaTorah HaRav HaRav Kanivsky shlita and Rabino Maran Rosh Yeshiva Rav Elyashon Edelstein shlita, the Degel Hatorah movement announced that in the upcoming Yerushalayim mayor elections it will support Mr. Moshe Leon,” the ad read.
According to the report, “prior to the support, meetings were held with most of the candidates in order to learn about their various positions on issues related to the sanctity of Yerushalayim and to examine their positions and their willingness to meet the needs of the ultra-Orthodox public in general and the Torah community in particular, including the mixed neighborhoods in which the Charedi public suffered terrible deprivation.”
