lakewood-policeA food delivery man and his customer on the 500 block of East Fifth Street were hospitalized after they were shot and robbed last night, police said.

Gunshots were fired about 7:50 p.m. as township resident Luis Lozada, 37, tried to make a Mexican food delivery at the home of Gregory Castro, 23, police said. As Lozado got out of the delivery car with the food he and Castro were accosted by two men, police said.

Detective Sgt. John Stillwell said the shots were fired by one of the robbers who had a handgun.

Lozada, who was shot in the abdomen, remained in critical condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after undergoing emergency surgery Thursday night, Stillwell said. Castro, who was shot in the buttocks, was in stable condition, he said.

“They were robbed of monies and the food,” Stillwell said.

The two male robbers, who were said to be wearing dark clothing, fled on foot.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit and Criminal Investigation Unit also responded.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Officer Jason Peterson at (732) 363-0200, ext. 5343, or Stillwell at ext. 5339.
