Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy on Florida Shooting: ‘We Are Responsible’

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) took the Senate floor this afternoon with the intended purpose of discussing immigration legislation. Instead, he took a moment to castigate his Senate colleagues for having failed to legislate stricter gun laws as reports emerged of a mass school shooting in Florida, the Daily Beast reports.
“Turn on your television right now, you’re going to see scenes of children running for their lives,” Murphy, who dealt with the Newtown massacre firsthand, said. “What looks to be the 19th school shooting in this country and we have not even hit March. Let me just note once again for my colleagues: this happens nowhere else other than the United States of America. This epidemic of mass slaughter. This scourge of school shooting after school shooting. It only happens here, not because of coincidence, not because of bad luck, but as a consequence of our inaction. We are responsible for a level of mass atrocity that happens in this country with zero parallel anywhere else.”

  1. Murphy, if guns are bad, disarm your bodyguards, you hypocrite. All law abiding citizens are not any less valuable than the government officials.

    • Bingo. My thoughts exactly. Why are their lives worth any more than ours. These leftist elitists are the most detestable creatures to walk on this earth.

    • Ah, the good old bodygaurd argument…. You can be pro-guns without giving up your intelligence, there are better pro-gun arguments than that. Of course, there are also some pretty good anti-gun arguments, and it’s a lot easier to just call Murphy a hypocrite than it to actually think about the issue and respond accordingly.

  2. Hey Anonymous!

I actually bumped into Sen. Murphy at Union Station in DC last year. Not sure what bodyguards you’re referring to?

Even schmoozed with him for a couple of minutes. Nice guy. So where are you making this garbage up from?
