DeRay Mckesson, a leading figure in the Black Lives Matter movement, announced on Wednesday that he is running for mayor in Baltimore.
He is jumping in to a crowded field fairly late in the process but wants to challenge the political norms in the city.
“We cannot rely on traditional pathways to politics and the traditional politicians who walk that path. We have to challenge the practices that have not and will not lead to transformation,” he wrote. Read more at The New York Times.
