obama-netanyahuWith all the talk about Israel and Hamas’ aggressive Twitter campaigns, Buzzfeed flags an example of a potential Israeli social media misfire.

It appears as though Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted at President  Obama thanking him for his “unequivocal clear sided” support of Israel’s right to defend itself, then promptly deleted the message.

“Some commenters have detected a note of sarcasm in the deleted Netanyahu tweet,” the Guardian speculates, or, “the tweet may have been deleted because ‘clear sided’ doesn’t really make sense; it’s ‘clear’ or ‘one-sided.'”

The Obama administration has so far come out strongly in support of Israel throughout the conflict, with the White House saying Thursday that it was up to Hamas to “de-escalate” and halt its “cowardly” rocket attacks.

“We strongly condemn the barrage of rocket fire from Gaza into Israel, and we regret the death and injury of innocent Israeli and Palestinian civilians caused by the ensuing violence,” White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters aboard Air Force One.

As for the deleted tweet, an Israeli Embassy spokesperson tells Buzzfeed, “Wouldn’t give it any significance.”
