It is with great sadness that we report the sudden petirah of Dr. Menachem (Mendy) Friedman z”l of Flatbush, Brooklyn. He was 57 years old.

R’ Mendy was found on Erev Shabbos in his car, having passed away.

He was a son of Rabbi Moshe (Murray) Friedman z”l, founder of the Torah Umesorah Counterfource program.

News of the petirah plunged the Flatbush community into mourning. R’ Mendy was a beloved doctor, but, more importantly, he was a noted baal chesed, a true ben Torah and talmid chochom, and one of the finest people one could ever meet.

His middos were sterling, his character was flawless, and his every day was spent in ways that created a kiddush Sheim Shomayim. His humility and self-effacedness were matched by his kindness and gentility.

A member of Rav Chaim Yisroel Weinfeld’s shul in Flatbush, R’ Mendy maintained his practice on Coney Island Avenue, near Avenue M.

R’ Mendy was a talmid of Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin and was trusted implicitly by the rosh yeshiva, Rav Aharon Schechter, who he cared for with great dedication.

With his passing, Flatbush and the greater Brooklyn frum community has lost of their finest.

The levaya will take place today, Sunday, Purim day, at 3 p.m. at Rav Weinfeld’s shul, located at the corner of Avenue L and East 22nd Street.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. bde, im stunned.
he was my doctor. every word written here is true plus much more.
he was what the torah meant a yid should be.
    what a loss.

  2. I’m in shock a d beyond words.
Was just by him (again) a few days ago. I don’t recall ever him raising his voice or loosing himself. The opposite, he had a true Simchos hachaim!
He touched the life’s of thousands!
May he be a מליץ יושר!

  3. He was always calm and radiated a torah hashkafa on medical issues. I always enjoyed going to him and talking to him about medical questions i had picking his brain for his personal opinion. He spent a lot of time with me for non serious medical issues answering all of my questions, concerns and curiosities. I even spoke to him about medically speaking if I’m tired in the morning can I wake up later if I’m a night person, he said yes. I then said the torah imposes zeman krias shema three hours into the day so obviously it cant be that late. He appreciated the raya from the torah that there was a limit to how late I can sleep even if I was a night person. Only a humble man Like Reb Menachem could appreciate a conversation like that.

  4. BD’E
Ahuv lbrios vohuv lmokom. We should take the time on Yom K’ Porim to introspect. May he be a Melitz yosher for his family, his Alma mater Yeshiva Rabbinu Chaim Berlin and his shul under the auspices of R’ Weinfeld.

  5. He was my doctor for many years and saved me when a top specialist misdiagnosed me. Also, only dr I ever met that was so humble and nice.

  6. An emesdike Torah Yid. the very opposite of the “Doctor = god” persona found in so many in the medical profession. He cared, he understood and he respected every person as a tzelem Elokim. he was a ben Torah in essence, a doctor only by profession. He made a kiddush Hashem wherever he went. May Hashem send His nechoma to the mishpacha as only He can.

  7. He was such a Mentsh. May he Rest In Peace and be a Maylitz Yosher for all of Klal Yisroel.

Is there any Shiva info for the family?
