E-cigarettes appear to be an increasingly unhealthy alternative to the real deal. A letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine featured findings from a study that found the vapors of e-cigarettes contained a significant amount of formaldehyde, a known carcinogen.
“We found this form of formaldehyde at significantly higher concentrations than even regular cigarettes [contain] – between five[fold] and fifteenfold higher concentration of formaldehyde than in cigarettes,” said David Peyton, a chemistry professor at Portland State University who worked on the study.
Shockingly, the e-cigarette industry dismissed the results. Read more at NPR.
