Ear Procedure Performed On Rav Ovadiah Yosef
Contrary to reports in various segments of the chareidi online media, Rav Ovadiah Yosef, head of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of Shas, did not undergo surgery today. Rather, Rav Yosef simply had some fluid drained from his ear following a serious ear infection.
“The procedure was done under local anesthesia,” a mekurav of the family said.
As Matzav.com Israel reported, last week, rumors were spread that Chacham Ovadiah is losing his hearing, but they were false. Rav Yosef suffered from an ear infection for a period of a week and a half during which he was unable to hear through one of his ears due to excessive fluid and inflammation. Doctors caring for Rav Yosef recommended treatment that takes about three weeks, which is why Rav Yosef had trouble hearing in one of his ears.
Today’s procedure was performed by a renowned expert in the field at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital min Yerushalayim. Rav Yosef was admitted yesterday in advance of the procedure and is expected to be released today, barring any complications.
The doctors initially did not want to carry out the procedure in question, but after several other medical attempts proved unsuccessful, it was decided to perform today’s procedure to remove the excess fluid.
May Rav Ovadia ben Georgia have a refuah sheleimah bekarov.
