monseyResidents of the East Ramapo school district approved a $196 million 2010-2011 budget proposal Tuesday, bringing to rest a tumultuous campaign season that stressed what many consider to be an already fractured community. The measure passed by a total of 4,828 votes to 4,099 votes, according to the district clerk.

The budget vote was the district’s second and final opportunity to approve a budget for next school year.

  1. This is a travesty and a tragedy. In these hard economic times it is amazing that we can’t muster the voters to vote on something which directly hits them in the pocketbook and maintains a dying school system that is vastly overfunded.

  2. It is our civic duty to pay for public education. A democracy can not function without educated citizens. Everyone’s taxes go up.

  3. Radle,

Your comment is not true. There is no reason that with declining enrollment and schools closing that the taxpaying public has to support a cost per student higher than elite private schools.
